I possibly want to use this product to spray on a crate pad. Will this cause the pup to start avoiding the crate. The pup is chewing up anything I put in the crate for a pad

I know some people have had some luck with this stuff, but I have to say it was a waste of money for me. My dog just looked at me like, "Thanks for the gravy!" and continued to chew. But then again, my dog's materials of choice were metal, rock and brick, so perhaps you shouldn't consider my dog's reaction!
Just a word to the wise...if you DO get this stuff, make absolutely sure you don't get it in YOUR mouth. Like a dope, I put a tiny (and I mean TINY) amount on my tongue. MISTAKE!

I'm still wondering if the smell will make him avoid the crate. If I was spraying it on some furniture I wouldn't be concerned but I certainly don't want him to get crate shy. I worked hard to get him accustomed to being in a crate and don't want to screw it up. The other option is to not use a pad at all.

That was the option I had to choose. Nothing made of fabric fared well in the crate, and since fabric isn't digestible by any creature I know of, it was scary because of possible blockage of intestinal tract, disconcerting seeing it in the stool, as well as the dog having a hard time eliminating a long piece of fabric.

Thanks for some ideas. The cowmat idea made me think of trying a thick (three quarters of a inch) outside door mat sprayed with Listerine. So far so good and a cheap fix.

My pup gets no pad at all. He will chew and hump any towel, pillow, et cetera in a crate or outside of a crate. He started out with a pillow, but now just has to make do with the floor. Perhaps when he is done with puppy hood, we'll see.

This made me laugh out loud Amber.....I did it too.....YUK seemed to taste it for days....
I use cedar planks and cow mats with the dogs that annialate pads and blankets.....
I used the outdoor mats/rugs as well and those worked okay too....
I also make sure that they have a kong or safe chew toy in their crate as well.

My pup gets to sleep in lots of comfort in her crate. She hasn't chewed anything I've put in there, the bed, pillows that were in the before, old blankets.
Worse problem I had was when I was housetraining her and she'd pee on them. But I took them out until she stopped that. Then gave them back once she did, and haven't had a problem since.
I never had too much of a problem of her chewing on anything, so I guess I'm a lucky one. o_<
