I have a dog- terrior mix- and her eyes don't run alot, but about every 3-4 days I need to wipe the area below her eye to clean it. Any ideas on causes, prevention. I realize since she is a mix and I do not know what she is mixed with, it could be a breed who has this in their make up. But I would like to find a way to stop it. The area under her eye gets dirty from it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (She is on a raw diet with supplements)
Thank you
Dear Connie: The discharge is not thick, or colored, but since it is moist, dirt and dust stick to it.(we live in an area where out street is not paved and our yard where she runs and plays is s dirt.) The eyes are not red, both eyes.

I'd skip that Omega 6 supplement, BTW. Omega 3s are what we need to supplement. 6s are in overly abundant amounts in modern slaughter meats and modern diets in general..... human and dog.
Because the idea is to restore some of the 3-6 balance, adding more 6s just means you need even more 3s.
I would also skip the Omega 9.
It's the salmon oil and the Vitamin E (which you need to give when you give oil supplements) that dogs need most.
What is the name of the 6-3-9-C supplement?
Also, how much do you mean by "one squirt" of salmon oil? (And what does the dog weigh?)
I'd make a reminder to bring up the discharge thing with the vet next time you go, and meanwhile I would watch it for any thickness or color, and I'd gently wipe it off with an eye wipe. And of course, I'd watch for any redness.
Thanks for the information. I am looking for a holistic vet in my area so I can take her in. So far have had no luck. I may have to drive quite a distance to San Diego County.
She has not other symptoms. I know some dogs have runny eyes, but I would like to make sure it isn't an alergy or something. And I will get eye wipes to wipe the area.
Thanks for the links, I will look them up.
Bindi's overall health has greatly improved. She was pretty thin when I got her, not real bad, but you could see her backbone. When we first got her she didn't want to eat. But now, she eats well, has put on weight and is building muscles in her legs and has plenty of energy! We have over 1/2 an acre that is a little hilly, so she can run and build up her muscles. She loves it!~
Thanks again,
God bless you
