i'm a marathoner, but i'm training for some ultramarathons. in the spring i'll do a couple, including a 78k race and a 100 mile race, but it's really in preparation for/to see if i can do the canadian death race (125k, 17,000 foot elevation change, in 24 hours, first weekend (long weekend) every august) (http://www.canadiandeathrace.com)
An added bonus of raw animal fat is the Wulzen or anti-stiffness factor. It protects humans and animals from calcification of the joints-degenerative arthritis-as well as hardening of the arteries, cataracts and calcification of the pineal gland.
(Sally Fallon, Nourishing Traditions).
But, too much raw fat can cause some very runny stool.
that's actually a good way for me to check if the dogs are getting too much. like i said, luc lost some weight, so i'm trying for a healthy weight gain for him, while teagan needs to lose a few.
....looks like i'll be doing some reading on the best raw fat sources, as well as maybe adding more oils
You can probably get lard at the grocery store.
A butcher will have beef fat trimmings that they usually throw away.
Vegetable oils won't have the Wulzen factor.
If it were me I would rather stick with animal sources just because it would mimic the natural canine food, rather than vegetable oils.
I'm just guessing, but I think that the veg. oils might loosen the stools faster than the animal fats. Maybe Connie knows...
