I am fairly new to gsd's I have had only one, for a short time, and just did a rescue on one. I have had him for about 6 days now with no problems that werent easily corrected. He is AWESOME.
Today we finally played a little better, seems like he does not know how to play fetch or tug. He is 4. So he takes the rope with the ball on it and I am going easy with him, just letting him get used to this, and he lays down and plays with the rope, and eventually wiggles on his back and contiues just to play. and he wiggles and wiggles and then finally turned over and I gave him slip command and watched as I picked up toy and threw again, and all was well, he went again to fetch.
Just trying to judge how he reacts when toy was taken away, and small lite play then back to crate as we are still doing groundwork.
But don't know enough yet about animal behavoir to know what the wiggles were for.
Well sounds like either he has a very serious twitching problem or he was doing his version of playing.
Give him a while longer, Denise, he will get settled in and then you will be able to have a lot of fun w/him. Usually about 1 month and they are feeling relaxed in their new environment. Adjusting to a new pack and figuring out the new pack order can be stressful, he'll come along. You did a great thing rescuing him, he's a lucky fella.
Thank you, that is not him, that is my first one I rescued and rehabd, that was Jack, camera is inoperable so no new ones of him yet. He is white. I miss Jack, he was gorgeous. He was from a litter here in texas that supossedly was ddr dog line.
As far as Reiko, I thought it might be his way of playing,,,he gave me his belly on the second or third day, so he is doing well so far, he feels comfortable enough to roll and play and give belly. I am not studied behaviourist, but learning best I can.
