Carol, David, Amber, Sarah and Randy - thanks for sharing your stories as well!! (And thank you Jennifer too, even though you didn't have a story, hehe).
The whole bag of hersheys, the chocolate cake, the sock and the sharp glass shards really do help put things in perspective
For some reason my brain stops working when something happens to my dogs. All they have is me so I can't afford to mess up
Sarah: yes, I do feel better, thanks to you guys. You're all great, this is why I love this board
This kind of thing happens...even to the most vigilant owner...and it comes with puppy territory. I know you know this
You did everything right. She'll be OK.
DITTO...DITTO...DITTO
When I was young and naive, I had a Dalmatian that ate a WHOLE bag of Hersheys kisses, FOIL and all......she had the serious runs by the time I got home, I took her to the vet, and about two days later, she was back to her ole self.
You are a GREAT owner Yuko. No serious worries since she sounds like she hacked most of it up and it had not been in her system very long.
DITTO DITTO DITTO! Yuko, you did fine, fine.
Oh Auntie Carol...it must run in the family...
On my birthday, Cato was out on the main floor and I asked husband to keep an eye on him. I was going to be upstairs for what, 3 mins MAX. I go back downstairs and into the kitchen, and there it is. A balloon, which HAD been anchored down on to the counter by a baggie full of HERSHEY's KISSES, was now up on the ceiling with a shredded baggie floating right at my eye level...empty. HMmmmmm, wonder where THOSE kisses went, yes, foil and all. CATO. He was fine.
Is it true that the chocolate that will actually kill a dog is the "real" cocoa beans, dark chocolate? I thought milk chocolate only made them sick...(diarrhea/vomiting)

This is a pretty good article explaining the effects of different kinds of chocolates:
If you want a more technical article, I have some vet sites that say basically the same thing, only with larger words. (I remember when my friend was in vet school and I was looking through his text books--I was always shocked to see such simple words, like "cat" and "dog" nestled in there between 400 letter scienific words. )
I have gotten warnings about lawn and garden mulch that is made of cocoa fibers (by-product of chocolate manufacture). It's just loaded with the toxic compound theobromine and some dogs will eat it.
