Subject: Re: Honest Kitchen....a reply from the Corporate office
Here is the reply from the President/CEO of the Honest Kitchen.
From the Honest Kitchen:
Thank you for your email. We appreciate your taking the time to contact us. We respect your right to an opinion which may be different from our own, and of course to make choices about the products you purchase. We are sorry that our upcoming donation to the Humane Society has annoyed you. There is some quite detailed information on the HSUS web site concerning their position on several important current issues, as well as several informative articles that we believe provide beneficial and useful information for pet owners - one of which can be found at: http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_adoption_information/how_to_find_a_good_dog_breeder
The Honest Kitchen supports responsible breeding as well as responsible pet ownership, and also has great respect for the valuable work that local Humane Societies and animal shelters around the country, do to provide care for pets less fortunate than our own as well as during the firestorms which devastated our local community recently http://www.sdhumane.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ter__HarrisWitchcreekFire
Again, we are sorry that our donation to this organization is not in line with your own values. If you would like to suggest an organization for a future donation through our Pawlanthropy charitable giving program, we would be pleased to consider it.

The HSUS does a lot of good.
It's not PITA.
No, the HSUS and I are not in agreement on lots of things. But the work of the HSUS in getting existing animal cruelty laws enforced, and against dogfighting, etc., and their large-scale investigations into and exposes of (for example) the Lancashire County mega puppy mills ... this is work that I personally would not like to see halted.
JMO.
I guess that I would rather address with the HSUS itself what parts of their mission I see as counterproductive or intrusive....
But again, JMO.
EDIT: That was supposed to say "It's not PETA."

It is disappointing to me that Honest Kitchen is supporting HSUS, particularly after they had some significant backlash for supporting PETA. HSUS is one of the major backers of AB 1634:
HSUS might not be PETA but they are not winning any points in my book. With that said, I have worked with the regional office regarding cruelty cases etc and found them helpful and polite. I will continue to value their assistance in various matters. We just leave our personal beliefs at the door ;-) However, my respect and support for the regional office does not lead me to support the national organization who I personally believe has agendas that are not beneficial.
Will I stop using Honest Kitchen? I don't know. I doubt it since my dogs do well on it. But I sure as heck am not going to pretend that the company is not made up of hippy dippy individuals who have little insight into animal legislation.
As with Connie, this is just my personal opinion :-P
On a sidenote: if there are folks who do not wish to continue business w/THK, but want to keep feeding a dehydrated raw, I have found another dehydrated food I like quite a bit, and that is Grandma Lucy's. http://www.grandmalucys.com/diner.html. They have a lamb recipe, which is good for sensitive/allergic dogs.

To be honest....I buy THK to support LB, so if they started promoting a different one, I may try that.
I have quite a few dogs and I use that to supplement, since I already by tons of meat a month. If I quit using it, I would have to buy more and get another new freezer.
Since I already have four freezers in the shop, one of which has our meat in it, I think another one would send Doug into a tail spin of HUGE proportions.
So for me it is THK.
PS....the link gives me an error and will not open.

It's because the way it linked in your post, the address is followed by the . that closes the sentence. Delete that from the URL and you're good to go.
