The new puppy I got came with a chip already in place. When I took the pup to the vet I asked them to scan for it. Nothing came up on their scanner. The vet then had the tech "Go get the new scanner the Bayer rep dropped off." Shazaam, the chip was indeed there and came up correctly.
The vet explained that my pup has the new chip which is 135 MHZ. He claims it has been the standard in Europe for years and is just starting to become popular here in the States. The Avid chip in my other dogs is 125 MHZ.
No current scanner works on both and my local Humane Society /shelter uses the 125 MHZ scanner and doesn't even have the new one! The vet is advising me to have a second chip put in the dog.
For those old enough to remember, it sounds like the old VHS Vs BetaMax battle.
Always looking for training avenues close to home. Any suggestions?

Yeah, there's a whole microchip war going on right now. You may have noticed there are suddenly lots of HomeAgain ads flying around. Bayer did indeed introduce a new chip and "universal" scanner, that does supposedly read everything. Which is good. From what I heard, lots of shelters are switching.
