In French Ring we train the food refusal using food. I participated in a thread a few weeks back that explained the process. As well Steven Lepic has a really great video of his dog training food refusal for beautiful visual, in the linked thread. Using Food for training food refusal
i have a related question- why don't criminals learn about dog training? I mean i am glad they don't, but a thief or predator has access to this website too, what stops them from learning all the commands, and the marker "yes" for taking food, etc.
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but i have always wondered that, maybe someone can explain this, as i'm sure it is an issue you all have to deal with.
If Cesar Milan came up to a guard dog left outside, and knew all the german/czech commands-well, what then? Not that he would do that, but you know....
#1. Sometimes they do, and it can end quite tragically for the good guys. I heard of one horrific instance of anticipating a k9 response, which I won't share for the point you mention.
#2. Typically, however, as criminally clever as they can sometimes be, it never ceases to amaze me how basically ignorant and impulsive they are.
I just arrested some guy and seized his car the other day. I explained to him the process by which we may take his car...depending on how much he still owes on it etc. I tried to keep it really simple, and ended the conversation as such: "We may keep your car, but you may get it back. For now it's staying here."
I give him his cell phone.
His girlfriend arrives a minute later, and I go outside with her to unload his belongings into another car. She's already on the phone with him, and she says: "Why are we doing this? He's saying you're NOT keeping the car."

People like him struggle valiantly to keep a driver's license. Do the math.
