Thank you, David. I agree though I would just like to point out that it really does depend on the upbringing for certain animals as to how aggressive they can become. Wolves and wolf hybrids, as pups test a handler in ways that most adult dogs never will and this growling, bossy, snappy biting behavior is ignored by people - this is what causes an animal to mature into a handler aggressive, dominant over the handler, animal. But it does take a very experienced.. and I stress that!! EXPERIENCED!! person to properly raise and handle a wolf or wolfdog, you CANNOT treat them like fido. This is not a lab puppy, and people don't understand that.
Any wolf or wolfdog, even softer tempered, naturally submissive/lowest ranking per the other animals, if not raised and handled properly, will become a handler aggressive, dangerous animal. With that said, a naturally dominant animal will give you trouble and to tangle with an alpha wolf is not a good idea. I think that wolfdogs and wolves should never ever be bred. Ever. They are not pets, and the only place they belong is in a rescue facility where people know how to handle them.
My viewpoint on hybrids comes from a rescue standpoint as someone who is experienced with raising and handling these animals. So if someone reads this and thinks I am pro-hybrid, I am not except for as a rescue person. My standpoint is in the hands of an average person they indeed are very dangerous animals.
A comment on wolves specifically, and high content wolfdogs/wolfdogs 50% + wolf .. the main problems arise with these animals when attempting to "train" them as someone would a dog. They cannot be housebroken. They cannot be obedience trained. Problems come when you try to make a wolf do something unnatural, such as listening to human commands. Wolves can be handled without issues if you don't try to make them lie down and sit pretty. They don't have the desire to please the way that a dog does, and you are expected to act like a wolf, not like a human.
