I am finding that when I put on the prong (this is for walking purposes only; no corrections) that it's not exactly as Ed shows in his article.
It is placed high up on her neck where it's supposed to be, but it's easier to attach it so that the prongs are on the underside of her neck and the chain link part w/ the rings are on the top of her neck.
Also, we walk quite often on a very busy road, and sometimes she's on my left and sometimes on my right (always to the inside of the traffic), so if the rings are on the top of her neck, the collar stays straight.
Otherwise, if I position the rings on her lower right side like shown in the article, the collar will twist when she's walking on my right side.
So anyway, my question is, is there any reason why the prongs shouldn't be positioned around the underside of her neck?
Because you don't want the prongs to dig into the front of the dog's throat. Think about the anatomical differences between the front and the side of the neck.
I think you have the collar too loose if it will slip down while you are walking. It should be tight enough that it stays in position at all times.
Yeah, that makes sense.
The collar is tight enough; it just twists a bit if I have her walking on my right side instead of my left. I'll try again tonight and see if I can get it positioned better. Thanks Rick...
Remember the prong points are supposed to be round so if the dog scratches at it or shakes it could shift and that is allright. That doesn't mean that the prong is on wrong. Even on my Mal with her little lion mane it can shift a bit so your dog with its smoother coat it would be even more noticeable.
As long as it is high up on the neck behind the ears and doesn't fall down it is on correctly.
They are round; I have the Sprenger prong that Leerburg sells...
Yes, Geoff, what I'm noticing is her skin twisting a bit depending on which side of me she's walking...it looks uncomfortable, but probably isn't since she doesn't seem to react to it...
