I want to teach Buster to chew through rope (eventually the complete trick will be to untie someone by chewing through rope) now, he already chews through his leashes if they arent leather or double nylon (but just give him time!) but Im not sure how to get him to chew a rope on command. Im not sure how to connect the dots for him...any suggestions?

Maybe you could try rubbing something yummy on the rope like bacon grease to start, and give him your chosen work or command. As soon as he starts chewing mark it, then reward with something even yummier, like steak, chicken, whatever floats his boat. Rinse, repeat. gradually do this without anything on the rope. He should pick it up pretty quick.
I of course have never tried to teach a dog this trick, but this seems like it should work. Good luck.
no, but I decided on this one; why try and dam Niagra falls? he already does it (always has been a profficient chewer) NOT easy to teach him not to and I would never really trust him anyway so why bother? hes not misbehaving (that he knows of) so since it isnt a big deal yet, i dont have to clash horns with him over it and besides, ive always thought the trick was neat and wanted to teach it to my dogs; but hes the only one who really likes to chew...
