We feed through all of these. They all list chicken one way or the other.
So then OK for chicken.
I use very very overcooked white rice (long-cooked, extra water, resulting in a gruel; no salt), plain for the first day and then with no-skin no-fat white chicken added to it after that as you cook the rice. (It improves the rice taste to the dog, too.)
You could use a little plain (no sugar or spices) cooked (canned) pumpkin, too.
And hydration -- she drinks water fine? (This food has lots of water, too, but you still watch her gums and skin if she has liquid diarrhea.)
If that didn't make a marked difference in a day, then I'd re-think it. Someone else here has mentioned dogs who are intolerant even to that amount of grain, but that is not likely to happen here; she has been eating foods with grain and had no diarrhea.
The diarrhea stopped and we went back to the old food. We're gonna' use the "canned food bridge" this time around.
Although not on purpose, I'm afraid I may have rushed her a little. I wasn't leaving much fat, but after she had the good stools I probably wasn't as diligent about removing it as I was. I was virtually scrubbing them clean at first. After trying to figure out what went wrong I realized MY mistake.
Even though I feel like I found the reason, I still want to go slower than the previous attempts. Hell, why the hurry now?
She is all the way on THK and chicken backs. Has been for about 2 weeks. She only gets 2 backs a day right now, but is gonna' start easing into more since she is doing so good.
Hopefully she'll be able to go full on meat and bones, but this is good enough for me if this is as far as she gets. I'm happy for the ole' gal.
She's finally all the way over. Takin' new foods like a champ.
Shes had chicken, deer, pork, and a little bison heart. Deer holds a special place in her stomach. Thank God, its the one thing I can get the most of...for free at that.
