I think the "downed cow" being unfit for human consumption came about due to the mad cow scare a few years ago. I think it's pretty gross that meat considered unfit is being used to feed racing greyhounds and to make dog kibble. I'm so glad I don't buy dog food anymore. And I was REALLY happy I don't feed commercial food when all the tainted dog food started showing up.( I'm also glad that my two are small enough that I can supply them with all the meat and variety they need for not very much money.)
