I fed one of my dogs raw for a while but unfortunately my source of meat was the grocery store and I soon could not afford it.
While she was on raw her coat glistened and her teeth were great. She never had any problems with eating the bones, which at the time was my concern.
I weaned a litter of pups on raw ground meat but then switched them to kibble (Innova) to make the transition easier for them to go to new homes. (The pups were rescues and it's too hard to find raw-feeding, let alone good, homes for mixed breeds. Had I been a breeder selling pups I would have tried to find raw feeding homes since the pups did so well on raw).
Now my dogs get a 1/4 of a chicken as a nice treat about once or twice a month.
I am looking for good cheap meat sources so I can go back to raw! Even though my dogs eat good kibble (Innova and Wellness) they just aren't doing as well (lots of poop, coat not as shiny).
I feed a raw diet and part kibble to my dogs. Walmart has the 10 lb bags of chicken quarters for $4.70 bag which is what I buy because it's pretty cheap. I also spoke with my local grocery stores meat manager and he could order me turkey necks in 30lb cases and get those for under $1.00 lb since I was buying in bulk. I live in a small town so it's hard to find to much variety but those are a couple ideas anyway. Maybe even check with any meat markets or butcher shops in your area - alot of times they give away the parts they dont use.
