In terms of feeding raw and the percentage equation you use to work out the amounts, when do you consider the dog not a puppy anymore?
Or am I confused in thinking that you use a different ratio for puppies than you do for adults?
Max is about 7 months old and we are just starting on raw, but finding it hard to figure out just how much he should be eating. I realise that a lot of it will be dependent on how 'fat' he looks, but I would like to start out with an approximate amount per day.
I pretty much go on how he looks. My pup is 4 months. Last two weeks he was eating me out of house and home but the last two days his appetite has decreased. He is a German shepherd so I am trying to keep him on the thin side during this critical growth stage.
I definately would look at your dog and either increase or decrease according to his body. I know it sounds to simplistic but I do not think raw has to be as complicated as some like to make it.
The 2-3% feeding ratio is based off a dogs ideal "adult" weight. My adult dogs are around 150lbs/68kg and eat 3-4lbs/1.4-1.8kg per day and my puppies are around 60lbs/27kg now, but will be 150lbs/68kg as adults and they eat 3-3.5lbs/1.4-1.6kg per day.
