Hi All..I have 4 rat terrier puppies that are 2 days old. The mom has done the same as last yr and come into very little milk. Last yr the pups started really crying..this yr they are just nursing all the time and moaning like,so I tried the bottle with the leerburg formula and they sucked it right down and want more. I gave them 3cc a piece every 4hrs..I'm just not sure as to how fast to go up ..what does everyone do in this case? What do you reccomend? They seem plump and happy but like I said they are nursing it seems constantly? I squeeze her teat and can get a drop but its hard to get a second drop? They weigh right around 250 to 300grms. Would you let them drink all they want?
Mom is taking great care of them just not enough milk.
Rachel,Munchkin and the 4 PUPS!!!
Do you own a gram scale? Have you been weighing the puppies and keeping a record? The goal is for the pups to gain weight on a day to day basis. If your pups are not gaining, increase the feeding amount.
Make sure your female is drinking. If she doesn't appear to be drinking much water, add a can of low-sodium chicken broth to entice her. If they don't drink enough, they have trouble producing milk.
