Yesterday we did a car scenario where the decoy would approach in a normal manner, then become aggressive and after give the dog the bite.
Now, since I read how bad table training is (which I also believe it is), wouldn't a situation in a car which is an enclosed space, and doesn't give the dog the chance to flee, be similar to table training or box training? I'm worried!
Enrique,
There are people far more knowledgable here then me, but to me what catagory to put the car scenerio in would depend on the dog, and the training the dog has recieved thus far.
Like was the thing set up to bring the defensive drive out that the dog wasn't exhibiting in the field? Then I would say it is certainly akin to table training (torture).
Or was the experiment set up for a dog that has shown good defense in the field to introduce the dog to real life situations? Then I'd have to say it was an acceptable part of training.
It'll be interesting to see how far from wrong I am. As I'm sure you'll get more responses to this quarry.
If I'm not learning, I not paying attention.
Randy
Although one could assume that the two are the same given certain circumstances, they are not. In your scenario the dog has the option to avoid the decoy. All he has to do is run to a different part of the car if he feels too pressured. You're fine.
