hello from Greece,
i thought of asking anyone here for some help?
i ve got a brilliant female 5 months old dobermann - my 1st though..
i mean when i recall here she never listens.when she has a lead on she always listens this command.
when she has an ordinary collar she pulls.when she has the prong collar on she acts like a lamb.
have someone faced the same fact maybe?
thank you very much in advance
Try using a long line lead (10mtrs or so) with a flat collar, then when you call her and she does not come you can coax her in, be really inthusiastc with her and to show her that its worth coming, maybe having some treats with you so when she does come to you its been worth while for her.
try using a choker/check chain as opposed to a prong, some dogs can shut down because of them. i dont know this from personal experience though as they are illegal in my state.
hope that helps.
Teagan is our first Dobermann too, and they are extremely clever. However, I'd say that at 5 months she's still learning (and approaching her first 'rush' of hormones).
Although Teagan's recall is now pretty good, she's still always on a long line when we go out. She did, however, make a dash outside the other day when the front door didn't quite catch and blew open! My thought was "Oh ****" - but I called 'Teagan COME!' in the happiest excited voice I could - she came bounding straight back, and got lots of praise.
Recall has to be something they WANT to do - certainly at that age it all needs to be positive, as hard as that is sometimes!
Go back to a flat collar and long line, and use extra-tasty treats, such as hotdogs. Make it fun, but re-enforce with the long line.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.
Hello dear mates,
i really really thank you for your help.
i am so excited with this dog that i forgot to login here and thank you.. (www.dogswinger.com - she is my oldest dobermann).
i was frustrated back then.
She even teaches the young ones. and the party goes on!
i feel lucky for catching up this dogs intelligence besides the fact that you were right and communicative.Thank you.
warm regards,
aris
