Angela, you say innova is bad, what do you think of Canidae? I think that's how you spell it. Any advice on what's good in a bag will be appreciated!
Cari,
I have had good success w/ Canidae and in the long run it's cheaper than the commercial brands because you use less. It does have some grains in it, but I'm sure it's much better than Eukaneuba. I switched over the course of a week and my pup had no digestive problems.
I feed Canidae in the a.m. and raw in the p.m. to my 8 month old pup. I really started to see great results w/ her coat when I started feeding raw and gave her the salmon oil and vitamin e that is recommended here.
Another benefit to feeding raw is that your dog's teeth will be pearly white, from crunching bones. (and my dog loves the raw!)
If you decide to feed both kibble and raw, make sure to feed at separate meals. Raw digests much faster than kibble and when you combine the dog may get lots of gas and upset stomach.
Jennifer-the store bought prepared raw diet sounds easy enough, maybe I'll look into it and try that. Like I said earlier, I'm not experiencing any real problems with the bad stuff , but thought I'd try some of the good quality food I keep hearing about. I'd like to see less poop and a prettier coat
Thanks for the advice and suggestions!
I thought I wasn't "experiencing any real problems with the bad stuff" 'til I switch my old, *crappy* kibble fed dog to a better kibble. Smells seem to just disappear.
We are in the process of a "slow switch" to raw with her. She will easily get digestive upset like you mentioned with your dog. Slow and gradual will definately help you however you decide to feed.
Good for you, looking into a better life for your dog!
