My 12 yo GSD/lab will no longer use her crate. I believe it is because she is getting stiff, and finds it uncomfortable to turn around inside. She is clearly stiff when first getting up, but still runs and jumps outside, so there is no serious problem. For now she is sleeping on a blanket on the floor. I would like to get her a bed for night sleeping. During the day, she can sleep on my bed or on furniture. Some of the beds I have seen are very expensive, and if I am going to shell out that kind of money, I want to make sure it is worth it. I have a crib mattress from our youngest child in storage at my mom's, that is one possibility. What is your experience?
The crib mattress sounds like an excellent idea. I picked up a dog bed at Wal-Mart made out of memory foam and my 3 year old GSD loves it and the price is reasonable.
I would consider getting her an acupunchture treatment and you wont be sorry that you did it for her. You will need to find someone who has done it on dogs before.

I have a 14 year old Lab who also gets stiff. I bought him one similar to the one at the link below. I got mine at Petsmart for around $50-$60. It was definitely worth the money. He loves it.
