My GSD Xena is now 11 months old.... She's coming on great.. very high drive, biddable, willing, focused... I'm very lucky with this one, this time, I know...
Here's a video taken today... (Brrrr. it's cold in England at the moment)..
Wow! Very impressive! A question- is a puppy of 11 months ready for such strenuous tasks? I was under the impression that puppies were still growing up to about 14 months and were vulnerable to injury. Oh yeah, and what a pretty face on Xena!
I am REALLY impressed. You see that lovely horizon? That's where my dogs would have been. LOL. I wish I had the patience and time to train my dogs to that level, though I do have a puppy who is currently 5.5 months old (he's currently learning 'drop the sock') that I hope to train for competitive agility and you gave me some really fantastic ideas on how to practise. And look at the focus, did you learn that in the Bernhard Flinks video?
I also worry about my dogs' joints, though. I don't put any of my dogs in formal agility classes until they are 18 months.
I've not particularly taught the focus by any method... Xena is very intense and quite a dog... it's come natural..i've just incorporated it into my training...
She's very biddable and never says no. Her searching is coming along nicely as it object retrieval etc...
I'm very fortunate to have her as my dog..and think I chose the right one from the litter..
