Poor kitty! I think the furminator ad states that it does not break the hair- I completely disagree with that! Every dog I've ever used it on seems to have broken guard hairs. When I got my DS the prior owner had furminatored him prior to giving him to the rescue.... he had SPLIT ENDS! Yuck!
I think they can be a great tool, and serve a purpose, but you've got to be careful... It's not a lazy mans way out of normal grooming.

I agree 100% with this statement Kelly. I used it once on my long coat and it did cause lots of breakage of the guard hairs.
I still like it for those times when my stock coated GSD is blowing her coat, but I won't use the Furminator on my long coat any more.
