Hi folks! This message is not exactly about puppy training but it's the closest category I could find to fit.
This summer I'll be getting a new pup for SchH and I need to build some outdoor kennels. We've got a male GSD (hubby's pet) and we need to keep these guys *separated*. I've visited the house of one of the guys in my SchH club and he's got some nice kennels for his two dogs, but he doesn't have any of the catalogs that he used to get supplies and such.
I'd like to build something like Norm's kennel. I just need some recommendations on where to get the right fencing components. We need to pour a small, sloped concrete slab, but I'm not sure how much space to leave for each dog's side. We'll need sturdy wire fencing to build the sides and a barrier inbetween, and some sort of sloped roof to protect from hot sun and rain.
Norm's kennels had some good fence doors, which had trays built in for food and water, so someone from the outside could refill without having to enter the kennel itself. Handy feature! Also, even the latches on the doors were designed with dogs in mind. The latch cannot be pushed up with a dog's nose like the average wire fence door. Also very handy! Obviously this is not straight-from-Home-Depot stuff.
Norm had suggested to me that I build in a "dog run" as improvement over his design, but I don't have any blueprints for that either.
If anyone has any kennel-building supply web sites or catalogs tucked away I would appreciate passing the info along. Also, if anyone has any advice pouring concrete we sure could use it. I am not Mr. Handy Man, and neither is my husband so we could sure use a good start...
