Ah - I see that. So when "critter-proofing" your SAR dogs do you think they just come to associate chasing wildlife with something unpleasant (e-collar stim) or do you use the e-collar to teach that chasing wildlife is not allowed even though it's fun? I don't mean to split hairs - I'm trying to figure out how a smart dog might think about this.
My correction was for even thinking about it. She learned to correct herself - you could tell she wanted to but thought twice about it.
The dog can never be allowed to chase critters. When I was working this dog I did a lot of exposure to small farm animals to "test" to make sure the behavior was not relapsing.
My other dog is real good about it; I did not have him as a puppy but I do know he spent some quality time on a farm and I think farms are real helpful for this.
