Well the saga continues.. I swear one of the parents of my dog must have been a goat!!!! I feel realy bad because it was definitely my fault. Heres a summery of what happened. Mierra is in heat so I have like a cloth dog diaper that I purchased from pets mart. I had to do some running around so I quickly put her in her crate. Totally forgot about the diaper. So I come home about 1 hr later and I see her in a crate with a big smile on her face and the diaper was ripped in half... Pad was gone. So it looks like she ate the pad and part of the diaper. I am praying that she passes both..I am feeding her raw so I'm hoping her system will be able to pass it. One question I have is how long do you think it will take to pass through her system? Should I be watchin for an intestinal blockage? What are some symtoms. As of this morning she is acting like her usual rowdy self... ahhhhh I swear this dog has a death wish!!!!
How absorbant is the pad part? My concern would be if it was not fully...um...."inflated" before she ate it and will expand in her stomach or intestines.
Some of those pads really absorb a lot and can greatly increase in size...some not so much. I would take a fresh one and set it in water to see how greatly it expands.
You should be watching for a blockage...I think that's good advice no matter what weird thing the dog eats...but especially with something that can increase in size. What was it made out of? Cotton? Polyester?
A dog that has an blockage or impaction will usually vomit, but not always. Their stomach will be tight if they're in pain. Diffent dogs manifest differently depending on where the blockage is. You'll certainly notice that something is wrong with your dog, but it won't necessarily happen right away.
But as with all the "for-what-it's-worth medical advice that I give (without a license, mind you...), call your vet if you're concerned or bring her in. But certainly keep a close eye out.
