Some of us of us grow a little tired of the same old puppy questions presented here. A lot of us have been "around the block" with puppies before. I have a new one here right now.
My memory has been refreshed with all the issues a working puppy creates in a new household. Many people expect a new little pup that the kids can snuggle and cuddle. They go into shock when they end up with a alligator and crying kids.
They get lost with the tedious task of house breaking. They grow tired of getting up and taking the pup out every 2 hours at night so he/she doesn't pee in the crate.
Many question the value and benefits of crate training when there are so many other issues to confront with a new pup.
I've been through this before and understand the "troubles" eventually pay off with big dividends.
For now those that need advice, hope or encouragement this is a great place for you to find it.
I'm finished with this post so I'll let the pup out so he can chew on me again.
Lee,
You are SO right! Patience is the key word - guess it applies to raising puppies as well as raising human babies.
I was one who posted many questions of this board as our puppy Nickie was being raised (he is now a little over a year & a half old). The crate is the best thing since sliced bread! However, as someone on the board noted, a puppy is learning nothing while he is in the crate. That may be true, but the puppy's owners need a break to keep their sanity!
You are right that this board is the place for advice, hope, and definitely encouragement. Without it, I doubt that Nickie would still be living at our house. I realize that he is still not fully mature - would not expect that until he is at least two or three years old since he is a large breed dog.
Hardly a day goes by that hubby doesn't say to me, "Did you ever think that you would see Nickie calmly laying on the floor while we watch TV?" All the "troubles" have definitely paid off with big dividends!
I have found that my patience is greatly extended by the patience shown to me by people here. I've had a couple of questions and I'm going to have even more before it's over. Folks have been very kind and helpful to me and it's very much appreciated.
Bane would thank you if he could stop biting my arm long enough to talk.
