I'm trying to find Cindy's thread of recommended holistic / i.e. raw feeding supportive vets. I think I'm looking in the wrong place.
At any rate...
I already submitted Dr. Karen Becker in Bourbonnais, IL. She referred us to a chiropracter who we also had a good experience with.
Here is the Chicago IL area Chiro info:
Dr. Sig Hansen
Appointment phone number: 847-551-1283
Dr. Hansen works in several different Chicago area clinics on different days of the week. We took our dogs to Villa Park, IL, but appointments are also available at:
Huntley, IL
Skokie, IL
Grayslake, IL
Lincoln Park, IL
Glendale Heights, IL
Dr. Hansen did an adjustment on our older (10+ years) Beagle and also our 4 1/2 year old female GSD who is SchH1 - hence has done protection work (SchH) since a young age. According to Dr. Becker's opinion, dogs who do protection work (i.e. SchH, PP, Police work, Ring Sports, etc.) could all do well with at least one chiro visit per year.
The old Beagle seems to get younger acting with each treatment that Dr. Becker recommends. He is totally off phenobarbitol for seizures now, and this back adjustment seems to have perked him up a notch.
I would say we are quickly becoming "believers" in chiro for dogs. Also, IMO, it is amazingly cost effective compared to a "traditional vet visit" where things tend to "pile on" to a huge bill. The initial chiro visit for each dog was $60, and subsequent visits will be $45.
Our Beagle is going for a follow up in about 6 weeks, and we are going to treat our GSD male to vertebrae review at the same time.
Just wanted to give a positive review of this dog Chiropracter for those interested in this type of service around the the Chicago area.
