I have never in my life seen this before, one of my rescue dogs, likes to nurse on stuffed animals....Can anyone tell me more about it??? Does anyone have experience with this ? Now he sits around and sucks on it like a pacifier,,,he is all calm, and even goes to sleep while nursing......He is such a crazy little dog,the one in previous post about SA he is on clomapramine and has been much much better, but now has started nursing on animals. I am sure he was taken too early from his mom, being a rescue pound baby and all, but I would be interested to hear stories and thoughts on this one.
Thanks
Denise,
I'm sure I've seen a previous thread on this subject. Just wanted to add that our dog Roxie (who also spent some time in a shelter) likes to nurse on the small blanket in her crate or on the sheet on her couch. She never tears up the cloth, just "nurses it" like you said. She only seems to do it if she feels insecure (or that is our take on it). I think it must help her to relax. I certainly would not try to correct her from doing it.
Thanks Diane, I think that is what he is doing also, is pacifing himself, he is nice, relaxed and quite while nursing. Otherwise he is OVER THE TOP, his name is Topper, and he certainly is, I see why no one could love that lil baby, he has lots of issues, but is just perfect for me. I thought this is the strangest thing......I have never actually seen a dog do this, I am sure it is done for comfort....I have been studing some behaviour stuff, but we havent gotten to that point yet... HA HA
It's really kind of amusing to watch, isn't it? Years ago when we were "cat people" we had a cat who would "nurse" on his littermate's ear and do the pushing with his paws like they do with the mamma. However, these were two grown cats.
I'm beginning to think that a dog without any issues would be pretty boring! Don't you agree?
