I'm not sure how many people are from S. Carolina in this forum...
There was a pretty dramatic rescue of a dog that has been chained since around 4 weeks of age. The dog, "Duke" is now around 2, and has been placed into foster care. His rescue and situation has become pretty well known in this area, and has generated an outcry in the local pet community.
The problem is that he is having some serious aggression issues due to not being rehabilitated from day 1 of rescue. His current foster situation may not be ideal for him, and he may need a new foster home while his behavior is addressed. I have been asked to work with him, which I agreed to do on a volunteer basis, however I may need to find a foster home to help. I am wondering if there are any experienced S. Carolina members close to the Lowcountry who are possibly willing to foster and help with his rehab.
thanks!

He has been chained up from 4 weeks to 2 years? The entire time? No interaction with people?

Yes that is correct, Sarah. First human contact other than food being thrown to him every other day, sometimes once a week was when he had the chain cut off his neck.

Did he have other dogs? Is he "doggy"?

No other dogs, no contact with anything. No immediate aggression, that started up a few days later while playing with his foster dad. I haven't evaluated him yet, should be doing that later today or tomorrow.

He looks better than I would have thought, given his story.
Things like this just make me ill. Thank God he was rescued and now has the chance to have a better life.

I'm seriously beginning to think that people should have to pass a test to get a license to own animals. Nothing drastic, maybe something like a driving test to drive a car.
At least some common sense questions, to prove you have enough brain cells to NOT chain up a dog 24/7, and to feed it DAILY.
Grrr... people suck!

YES! Where do I sign a petition for THAT??!!
Not that I'm in any way an advocate for more government control over our lives, but I've considered this MANY times, and seriously, I would think owning and being responsible for a living, breathing, feeling creature - that could potentially become dangerous to society - would be just as important (if not more so) than getting behind the wheel of a car... but I could be wrong...

That picture was after a few weeks or so of food from what I've been told. This is a "typical" example of a rescue that the person felt "sorry" for, so therefore no rules to make up for it, and the dog was in the honeymoon period until the first time it bit the foster dad... Now it is being aggressive/fearful/dominant almost all the time, depending on the situation.
I didn't really see any aggression at all, very passive but not overly. Will be able to tell more next time I see it...
