I was very close to enrolling my GSD puppy into a puppy class at 4 months, but decided against it. The wife and I attended a session without our pup; just watched. I realized that we were so, SO far ahead of all the other pups in the class when it came to obedience. I just couldn't bring myself to spend the money.
Also, during the "playtime" it looked like all the puppies were on tranquilizers they were moving SO SLOW. Then I realized that it was just that MY PUP is extreme-high energy.
I don't know about you guys, but when my pup plays, he plays to win. Just looking at all those little puppies, they all just looked so 'fragile'. I didn't think it was a good idea...
So instead we visit the in-laws and socialize with their two adult shelties. In other words: controlled situation, known dogs. Plus, these shelties are wicked fast and agile. They can burn the energy.
Anywho, that's how I've decided to proceed with dog-dog interaction with my pup. YMMV.
