I know they do change color but I thought I had my pup figured out. She is beautiful, btw, rich and glossy.
I have a almost 5-month-old GSD pup. She has been mainly black with tan coming up her legs, on her rear end, a small spot of tan on her chest and the tiniest bit on the side of her face. I am now seeing silver variegated on her chest, a splotch of silver behind one ear and silver and tan just beginning on the sides of her face, and a dark tan between her eyes and down her nose. Did anyone else have a dog do this and how long does their coat change?
She is already shedding much less and has had the most beautiful coat come in since I have her on Vit.E, fish oil, Vit C, and a raw diet. It's only been about a month but it has made a huge difference in her.
My black and brindle saddleback had his final pattern by about 6 1/2 months of age. I believe the most dramatic change happened from 5 months to 6 1/2 months, when the black on his hind legs, thighs and hips changed to brindle. The brindle also spread over his chest, increased on his face, head and ears. The white on his toes disappeared completely when he was about 4.5 months old, and the white on his chest was reduced too. Then changed only slightly until just over 7 months of age. He's now 9 months.
When he was born he was almost entirely black, now he has the same pattern as a saddleback German Shepherd.
The pattern can change up to about 9 months I believe?? And will darken till 3 years or so depending on the coat. Sable GSD's get alot darker over the 3 year period, where a black and tan will darken less.
