Awesome job!
Glad that things have really turned around for you! You have no idea how often people will hear what *should* happen, and yet ignore good advice, or think that they will eventually wear the dog down, and it will behave.
Ironically, I do believe that it was an ancient chinese proverb that said “Insanity is doing the same thing in the same way and
expecting a different outcome”
Again, nice job! Now the trick is to stay with it
When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.
Staying with it, even as we see the sweeter side of Cerbie, and also getting better at reading him. He hasn't shown dog aggression in awhile, but today on a walk, I was pre-occupied with watching the tottering man with a cane controlling his excited dog, and exchanging pleasantries with him, that I didn't observe my dog doing the stare down and then growling/ rushing towards his dog. I got him under control quickly, but I was still upset with myself for not being more aware of the situation. I guess we have to cut ourselves a break sometimes, though, too, right?
Situational awareness. Anticipation. Aware of surroundings and aware of the dog.
It is always really nice to read a poster who has moved from a little confusion to a real understanding of role and is able to objectively consider in situational hindsight what needs to be worked on.
We all learn from the little surprises, or the 'but I only looked away for a second' moments. It has to do with wanting to become better in our efforts.
Contrasting your following posts with your first one... You have come a long, long way. And it is all you! Cerbie is your mirror. To train the dog, the trainer must be trained.
Congratulations on your success.
