I've switched my dog from Innova kibble to Canidae (neighbor owns a pet store, and has traded me Canidae at his cost in exchange for helping him train his two dogs.... I'm a capitalist pig at heart, and jumped at the chance for quality food at low cost.)
Casey has been on Canidae for two days now, and I've noticed that her stools have increased in size. Pretty significantly, actually... perhaps a 50-75% increase. I admit that I haven't actually put them on a scale to weigh (Ewwww! ) but they certainly appear bigger.
Is this normal for a diet switch? Is it normal for this brand?
And yes, I'm feeding the same amount of food (by weight.)
I had the same issue. I switched from Wellness to Canidae because I wasn't happy with the dogs' condition. I liked Canidae but the store didn't stock it well so we ran out a few times. Switched from Canidae to Innova (different store) and the poops shrank, but suddenly all my dogs developed a poop-eating problem so I switched back (after about 4 months). Poops are large but now only my poop-obsessed dog still has a real problem with poop-eating (which he has always had, no matter what I feed him).
I am happy with the dogs' condition on Canidae, as I was with Innova, but I would have to agree with you that the poops are larger.
I just switched my dog to raw from Halo kibble and canned food and boy what a HUGE difference. From large and stinky to small, compact and much less of a smell.
Plus she is now going twice a day where with the kibble/canned it was three times per day, sometimes more.
I was surprised at the difference.
