I am all for a raw/natural diet, but for now kibble is what I can feed. I am using innova but I want to try orijen, I hear its the best as far as kibble goes, thanks!
i feed a mix of orijen and raw for my adult dogs and puppy (THK embark is neb - the puppy's - main food). i like it, the dogs have done well on it, no complaints or problems at all.
Orijen is one of several very high quality grain-free kibble brands for dogs.
I do not feed Orijen, as my puppy is naturally raised. I do feed her TOTW Pacific Stream twice a week to prep her for when we travel. I will switch to Ziwi Peak once this bag is finisd. However, I have heard wonderful feedback on Orijen, no complaints on the quality, production, ingredients and customer service.
But also keep in mind each dog reacts differently to every brand of food. So although most dogs do very well on a quality brand of dry food, there will be a population of dogs that might not do as well.
h, I was gonna say the Yellow Pages sometimes offer a wonderful selection of meat wholesalers who will sell to the public and not just restaurants. That is how I am able to source for a variety of meat for my puppy at very reasonable prices.
The only thing is, as opposed to a butcher, you have to buy in bulk. But for those with multiple dogs, it will work out nicely with a decently-sized chest freezer.
I have 3 Rotts and two old cats; they are all on Orijen since January this year. The fat ones have got thinner and the thin ones are now solid. The 10yr old male Rott is now all muscle and a touch of ribs on show. The spayed bitches are muscular and energetic. The stools have massively reduced. We pay $80 a bag here, I've seen it for $30 on uS web sites.
I also add raw meat in the evenings or fish, and in the mornings just plain kibble. Our biggest problem is buying it over here its very diificult to get hold of.
I changed from Royal Canin, and would never go back.
I feed Orijen fish recipe to my chicken-sensitive dog. His coat is glossy and he is doing really well. This kibble doesn't even look like other kibble - it's kind of flattened discs and is a completely different colour (very dark) and texture (firm and smooth) than other kibbles. You can see right off that it's a better quality.
I fed Orijen from 8 weeks to 4.5 months. I was feeding all Orijen for the first couple of months, then just in the morning and raw at night. I've since switched to 100% raw.
I thought it was a GREAT food. However, I'd see him have quite a few loose stools on it. 50% normal, 50% loose. Since I've gone all raw I've had no loose stools, and he poops about 25% as much as he used to.
