I guess my point was that there are exceptions going both ways. You can have the great bloodlines and get crap. Bloodlines are important but not a guarantee of workability. Many great working dogs don't reproduce themselves. As for the pets with prey drive at a young age and then having it fade out, that's probably because the prey drive hasn't been nurtured. I've seen this happen in good workingline Malinios. They were born attacking everything. After a few months of being treated like house pets they went "flat" as I've heard it described.
Getting back to this topic, if the pup comes from strong working lines, there's obviously a better chance of building prey drive than if not. But I have lived this scenario and it's alot of work and requires more patience than God gave me. It can be a long road toward bringing out the defence drive when old enough. If that doesn't work, you've got a 15 month old dog that your bonded with that makes a nice foot warmer. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
