Well, my pup is still injured with her 2 broken toes. She is getting pretty frustrated with the inability of playing and moving around.
I have been trying to exercise her by teaching her to search for things in the house. I have started with food, and she is doing very well!! Surprising well, I must say!
My problem is that she has ALWAYS loved to bite. Ever since she was 3 weeks in her litter, she was always the bitter. She loves the reward of biting my arm more than anything. She knows the command "No bite." But she really longs to do it and is always "asking" if she is allowed to do it just this once.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to use this or if I should just continue to tell her "no"?
Mind you, I have 5 boys, the smallest is 1yr. She plays REALLY well with him! They play together with a toy, my son will take it from her mouth and crawl aways while she watches, then she comes over to take it away from him. They go back and forth like that a good dozen times or so. What I do not want her to think is that it is OK to bite him. Yet, I would like to use a reward that will encourage her in her training.
Buy a puppy tug or cut a section of garden hose for her to bite. If those two options are not available, those rope bones can be found about anywhere and she will probably take to that right away.
I would not encourage her biting your arms. It doesn't take long before they get some power behind those jaws and can do some pretty good damage.
Yes, I will not let her bite my arm. I did let her do it when she was a lot younger, but thought that the bite scars that were left on my arm were terribly unattractive.
I will go out today and get a toy like you said. I hope this will deferr her from me to it. I suppose that I am to give it to her and tug at it with her as her reward. ((This will surely save me some $$$ on all the hotdog treats for everything she does correctly)))
