Swamp curs? LoL that's funny. What's also funny about that is; depending on my mood and visual assement of who's asking. I sometimes tell 'em he's a Mississippi Swamp Dog! That's gets 'em scratching their head too! LoL
I don't jog, but we get out and walk every morning and put 4 - 6 miles behind us! He gets and drinks about a half a bottle of water at the half way point and then drinks when we get back home.
We did a rare after noon hike last week, and it was really hot and humid. He drank four bottles of water that hike, for 5 miles!
I would be interested in biking with him Jennifer. But I hesitate on that, cuz he still gets lost on walks. ie The kids I got him from just tied him up outside and never walked him! So it was a new concept to him when I started it with him. ( and he really enjoys it! ) He is alright when on a side walk or trail, but when crossing a parking lot or field he hesitates or sometimes just stops! LoL he doesn't know where to go!LoL But he is getting better! When you bike with your dog do you use a lead? If so how long? Have you ever gotten tangled with it and wiped out? man I'd hate to be cruising along and have him stop all of a sudden! LoL How many miles do you go before he needs a break? Sorry for all the questions!
Oh and Eric, That swamp cur breeder LoL Does he really think that the insurance co. don't have a list of dog breeds?
Interesting talk you have here guys regarding the ABs. I am also an AB enthusiast here in the Philippines and I currently have a pure perf AB whose line can be traced back to had come from a reputable pure perf AB breeder there in the US. I do agree with Jennifer that through proper conditioning, they are capable of adjusting appropriately to the climate conditions from where they reside. We do have a very hot and/or humid weather most of the time here (if it's not raining) and I must say that I find Kovu's wind on the average on such conditions.
We've done mountain hiking on a bright sunny day and even on a cold rainy day, take a jog, do some Mondio Ring trainings when the sun is up and shining, and I do find Kovu's performance on such activities to be on the average or reasonable. As for their agility and prey drive, I'd say again, that with the proper conditioning and training appropriate for the breed, they could rival that of a Mal (giving consideration to their line also).
...But with drive, I have been around some extreme ABs. There are not a lot but there are some ABs out there with drive's rivaling a Mal. It is becoming more of a focus to breed ABs for high drive and work ability(in regards to sportwork) than before.

I would LOVE to someday own an AB like this. No, really... seriously... not kidding.
This is a great discussion. I am a huge Bully breed fan, and hope to always have at least one in my family. Right now I have a Boxer, if I ever move out of this city, a PB will be next. A lot of Bully people can't agree on the AB especially, glad to see this discussion has remained positive.
My Boxer struggles in the heat. We go on 2-3 mile jogs about twice a week (after 6 pm). I can tell a big difference in her stamina levels after Oct and before May. Even though she is on a good raw diet, she is still quite a shedder. More than my sister's Rottie.
Alex, if you could have one now I would recommend a breeder. I'm getting a pup in a few weeks from this breeder and it is, IMO, the best breeding of the year for working bulldogs. A real who's who of working bulldogs. 5 SchH titled bulldogs in 3 generations with 2 SchH III.
The stud of this litter is one of the over the top ABs I was talking about. PM me if you want some info Otherwise, when you are ready and thinking about a pup, shoot me an e-mail or PM.
ABs can be good working dogs. There is really a focus now to breed for sportwork/man work. There are arguments that the AB was not originally or intended to have any human aggression, but at least IMO that is not true. A breed expected to be a property/family guardian would have had to be able to light up on humans. They can be overly friendly dogs but a true AB is confident and accepting, but not a slobber kiss monster. It depends on the lines.
