I have a 4 month old Cane Corso puppy who just tested positive for Demodex Mange and is losing hair in spots that started on his front leg. Does anyone out there have this problem, if so, do you have any recommendations as to how to treat it? The Vet has him on "Revolution" which is to be applied every two weeks until it clears up which he says may be 2 months. He is scratching at the hairless spots. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. Thanks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
My vet prescribed a liquid ivermectin to be administered everyday for three weeks and a topical ointment which smelled like tar (but I can't remember what it is called). Demodex can occur from stress and low immune system.
My dog cleared up pretty quick. Try boosting his diet with some supplements (especially Vit C) and I found that when I applied aloe vera (right from the plant) to the bald patches, it worked better than that tar smelling stuff. He has never had a relapse yet. Good Luck.
My GSD had a small, localised spot on her front leg about a year ago when she was 1.5 yrs old. The vet gave us Pyoben (a medicated shampoo). I would wet just the infected area and rub in the shampoo, leave it on for 5-10 mins then rinse it off well. The vet said to do it everyday for 4 weeks. By the end of 3 weeks it was gone and the hair had grown back.
Thank you for the responses. When he was a puppy he had some kind of bumps on his head and I used the ?Pyrodem? shampoo and I still have some, maybe I'll give that a shot.
