Hi!
I have a question and since I have found no posts related to it I hope someone might be able to help me understanding...
A few days ago a 2 friend of ours came to visit us, and they took their 6 months old puppy with them. We live in the countryside and our dog (epagneul breton x setter) lives mostly outside our house. She is however sometimes let into the house and often sleeps inside at night time (when my husband is out for work, i feel safer with her at home).
The arrival of the new puppy (a Jack Russel) very much confused our dog. She was obviously worried of/terrified by this new visitor. All the J. Russel wanted to do is to play, and our dog didn't reach badly only left asap! our dog was showing dominance signs over the new dog (she jumped one day on the sofa, something she never did before!) but otherwise was only annoyed by the guest, although i'm sure she was also curious of her as she kept coming to check... What we noticed however is that she was salivating a lot as soon as she saw the new dog. I cannot find any explanation for this, what does it possibly mean?
anyway, sorry for the long post, and thank you in advance for any answers!
I'm sure more knowledgable people will reply but I believe the salivating/drooling is from being really stressed out! I had a old shepherd and both times I brought home new puppies she would do this for a couple days until she figured out they were staying as part of the family and she got used to them.
Yes, she was totally fine the day after the other dog left. We did realised she was stressed in the beginning, but in the last few days (our friends were here 10 days) she sort of got used to the puppy, and almost managed to play with her... She didn't stop salivating though!
