Drive building was the majority of my dog's activity when he was that young, along with short retrieves and walks. I like to channel that kind of energy into drive. And when he's reached his peak, I end the session on a good note and put the toy away. I wouldn't encourage too much running and/or jumping, as his bones and joints are still soft. Hope that helps. Good luck with your new pup <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
I'll do that. I've been told that most GSD's when on a proper diet don't reach full maturity until they are 2 years. Would you agree with that? If so, at what age could I start working with him in terms of increasing his agility and stamina without fear of injury?
No problem. Yeah I believe between 24-26 months is the general age of physical maturity. You'll want to get his prelims at about 12 months, so everything you let him endure physically is critical up to that point. I think between 8-10 months is arguably a safe age to start letting him do more, but never to exhaustion. His activity level will increase naturally as he gets older, and you'll be able to judge what he's capable of by his actions.
