Adriane Moffatt Webboard User Reg: 09-25-2008 Posts: 5 Loc: Pa Offline	I have a 4 y/o male GSD who lately has been thorwing up on average 4 times a week for the past two weeks. It's only liquid, not food, and is usually a yellow or light brown color. I'm not sure if it's his food, which I have to admit is only Purina, or if he's got heart burn, or what is going on. He started this at least a year ago but it was only about twice a month then and the vet wanted to give him anti-vomit pills. He does still eat twice a day and his bowels are fine/normal. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on with him? Thank you in advance for any help on this.

First consider if he has had any changes in his diet at all. That means treats, snacks, finding somthing out in the yard, whatever. Note the time he is vomiting, and when it is in relation to his eating. Now take him to the vet and get that bloodwork done. Bravo Vom Buchonia

You can do far better for a similar cost.

I plan on switching him to a different all natural food, just for his allergies alone. Something like Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul. As for the time of the episodes, they occure mostly while he is in his crate or when I am not home and my husband is, so I don't have an exact time. Are there any other questions that you have that would point to any one thing or narrow the possibilitys down?

Or do they ever happen after he has had a meal? BTW, if the dog has skin pruritis, I'd make the food switch immediately. Actually, I would anyway, because Purina is so low on the food list (IMO).

I try to space his meals so they are 10 - 12 hrs apart. It veries since I rotate shifts every month but he eats in the morning at 6:30 and at night at 5:30 or as close to those times as I can get. My husband has told me they have occured around 4pm some days, but that's when I'm working afternoons and not home. When I work day shift, if they occure it has already happened by the time I get home and I see the evidence in his crate since he usually does it on his blanket. I will switch his food this week. Thank you.

Since the neighbors have two yorkies, my dog does not go out unsupervised and is on a leash with me on the other end. It has been a while since he's had any blood work done.

In that case, I'd have a sample with me for the vet visit. (Some dogs have empty-stomach bile vomiting that is helped by not letting the stomach be that empty. Doesn't sound like that here.)
