My 4 year old Dalmatian threw up quite a bit in his crate this morning. I saw no signs of anything wrong prior. He went out fine this morning, then was sitting/laying in his crate calmly. I was watching TV and when I went by him I noticed he was drooling a lot and was lying in a bog puddle of like clear vomit/drool. I took him upstairs and gave him a bath, dried him off and have had him laying with me the rest of the morning. He's been very calm, maybe a "bit" lethargic but not too bad. I mean when Iget up to move to another room he is up and moving with me. I have noticed that when he's laying down he is a slittle bit shaky. He hasn't wanted to eat since vomitting but I don't think thats not normal. Last night he had his kibble ( thinking about switching to raw, still researching) and a little bit of white rice (he gets rice every now and then, mostly just kibble). Any suggestions? I was worried about bloat but... Its been several hours now and I see no decrease in his health state.
umm, yes, his last meal was last night, it was just the kibble with some white rice. For the most part his diet is kibble, which I am looking into changing as I mentioned. Nutro large breed to be exact. He's been on nutro for...3 years?. the white rice he gets I'd say probably 3 times a month. (when we make it and there's leftovers. Other than that and some pizza crust once in a while he doesn't eat people food. again, looking into the reaw diet. Lots of good info here for sure:-)
I've had him tethered to me all day so far. Keeping an eye on him. The shaking is what scared me too! He is a Dalmatian. A high energy dog. so the shaking and slight lethargy were a bit concerning to me. He "may" have been shaking because he was still damp from the bath ( I don't think so, but could be.) He isn't shaking at all anymore and seems to be his normal self. Drinking, hanging out, his energy is back.
His stool was a bit light in color and a bit soft but not runny or soupy. I'll be keeping an eye on it.
Doesn't seem to have any pain. I palpated his stomach and got no pain response. It doesn't feel really any stiffer than usual.
Basically, I have no idea why it happened, thats what concerned me. its not normal, but he seems fine now. I'll be keeping an eye on him. Thank you for the help.
