He's been off all meds for a while. He hasn't displayed any sign of illness - great appetite; solid stool; energetic; slow, steady weight gain, coat & eyes shiny and clear. His diet is really well-rounded and nothing new was introduced before this cropped up. The only thing I can think of that was out of the ordinary is that the fall walnut and almond harvesting happened which puts a lot of things in the air. He's inside almost all the time but could that have had an affect?
He also has no odor whatsoever. No dog smell at all and his ears smell neutral, too. It's only the right ear that has the black gunk and it's so thick the vet couldn't see his eardrum through it.
I'm surprised how long the treatment is - 30 days 2x per day of the liquid ear medicine. If he doesn't need to be seen before the end of the course, he goes in at the time to ensure his eardrum can be seen.
