E-collars that have digital read outs on them are usually junk. Just had to get that out of the way. And like someone else said, the breed of dog doesn't really play into this problem very much. You can use the e-collar for this behavior problem but the way you use it is of utmost importance. Like someone else said, if you correct and the dog doesn't look to you for guidance, then you aren't using the collar properly. If you wait and give a correction when the dogs are close, then you have already screwed up. Someone else said give a leash correction and go the other direction... I don't reallly agree with this. If a person was a professional trainer and had great timing and consistency, then I could see it working. But if you want to use an e-collar to solve this behavior then you need to start training for it. Don't just go out looking for it and try to train then. You need to find a dog that your dog keys off of and start there. You also need to start getting a handle on your dogs body language. The correction happens the second your dog exibits the bahavior. You want avoidance, that's all.
I am not sure I would quantify Dogtra e-collars as junk but to each your own <shrug> I know you said "usually" but I am not one for generalizations I was the individual who stated pop and walk away - you are correct, perfect timing is needed to make this effective.
To the OP, I would recommend finding a good trainer in your area who can help you work through this. I might have a couple names and will PM them to you when I get them.
