Ok Im back everyone with another question (do they ever stop?) Kane (13 wk. GSD) is very gentle with the kids I have here. I have two children but I take care of 4 others. I want to train him for schutzhund which by the way Im new to, and I hear of alot of the puppys that seem good for the sport are very mouthy and prey crazy. Kane, AKA Caesar vom Robinwood, has Germanbloodlines and was chosen for me for the schutzhund sport. He does have drive although he needs to be worked with more. Is not too interested in playing tug-o-war but he loves to chase anyting on a string even the broom when I sweep!
My question is am I making a mistake? I have never disaplined him for nipping or being rough with the children and let me tell you he is wonderful with them! No rough playing or nipping... he just lays down and takes it all in. Now this is very good since hes in the house most of the time and he HAS to get along well with the children, but could it be that hes TOO easy going? Or not mouth enough (as odd as that sounds)? Im not wanting or asking him to mip or be mouthy but I guess I would just like some reassurance that he may still be a good schutzhund dog. The only time he gets a little mouthy or rough is if an adult gets on the floor with him at his level and play vigorously(sp?) with him, but even then he seems to calm down right away. Any oppinions, advice, stories you want to share would be a big help. Thanks ahead of time for all replies.
This forum is the dog owners dream. Everyone has been a big help so far!
Maybe I should have been more in detail. He does show interest but maybe Im doing something wrong. When we play, and I let him "win" he just stands there looking at me. Am I maybe leting him win too soon? He will bring it back to me to play some more but he just stares at me when he wins, as if to say... "thats it?" I also stop playing when hes extremely interested and dont want to stop playing, to ensure he will get more excited the next time. Really my question is his getleness...does his getleness alone throw up a red flag? He will play rougher and be more mouthy with myself and fiance, but will take it all in when the kids are around. I Know I need some of the leerburg tapes, which I will be buying in about 2 weeks. So in the mwan time if anyone has any other pointers or suggestions, or if I doing something wrong? Please let me know

His interst in his tug toy has increased... he goes nuts for it when I bring it out... I think I was letting him win too fast and easy before and not making it much of a challenge... I have increased the time I hold on to it and make him work for it more and it seems to be better... hes still calm with the kids but can get mouthy with the adults... I was just surprised he is as good as he is with them... thought I would end up with a puppy that would try to nip and mouth the kids... I should be thankful he is good with them.
Thanks for giving me the hope that he still has a chance. I will be working more with him.
