First off, whatever Michael says is like gospel. What little I know, I learned from him (and Connie, and also other posters here).
Re: duck necks. I feed them to my "kids" on a regular basis. The ones I get have no skin, so they are pretty lean. If you can get them that way, great. If not, just pull the skin off. I believe they are high in iron, in case you can't feed beef.
Re: lamb necks. I have fed them without problem but they are expensive here. I do give an occasional frozen lamb shank which are cheaper. When I feed it frozen, it keeps Cleo occupied for a while. She had broken off and eaten some of the bone and has tolerated well. Hope this helps!
BTW, congrats on your find!!! I'm envious Due to the cost of real estate, there is very little locally grown meat. Everything is shipped in, already butchered and packaged from the mainland. Feeding raw in Hawaii is very tough. If you have any scraps, send them over here for Cleo and Alex's X-Mas presents....
How do you guys feel about feeding turkey wings as RMB? They seem HUGE, but maybe they are still safely edible?
I haven't fed them to my current pup yet, but I did feed turkey wings to a dog I was sitting for once. He was a Pekingese/Poodle mix and he handled the wings just fine so I'd think they'd be ok for pretty much any dog.
I tried the turkey wings once and both of my two had shards of bone left in their stool, so that was enough for me to say no to turkey wings. They love their turkey necks however, and we feed those weekly.
But, perhaps it was just my two that didn't digest them for some reason. ??
I also feed duck necks when I can find them, that and lamb too.
I am so envious of your co-op find Maisha!
