My boy seems to not have a high food drive... well, he does omp up on the treats during training, but at feeding time he jus doesnt seem to have an interest in his food. We switched up a little while ago and same behavior...
Clarify by spelling every little thing out. Some people can be extreme when drawing their own conclusions.
Had the same problem with my 1 1/2 yr old GSD...Vet suggested that I put his food down for an 1/2 hr...if not eaten store it in frig if necessary until next scheduled feeding time if more than once a day. give no treats during this time...and within 1 day he was eating the food when i put it down....still is a slow starter but once he starts...
I also put food in his kong topped with a favorite when I leave him home ...also if he does eat dinner that's were the rest of his dinner goes until it is done.
P..S.. stick to one food otherwise it will become a bigger issue
My boy has a poor appetite, it doesn't matter what food we have tried, including raw, he just isn't all that excited about eating.
He also has nearly no attention span so that is an issue as well, he takes a bite or two then wanders over to sniff something, or say hi to me, then he might remember his food and if I allow it this can go on for a good hour or more.
But with two other dogs in the house I prefer to get meal times over and done with so we can go about our business.
We also put it down for 15 minutes then take it back up, then I try again several hours later.
I stopped the wandering by feeding her in the crate.
It took a few days, and in the end, I just had to be more stubborn than the dog. It was hard seeing her go for days without eating, but in the end, she broke down and began eating heartily and finishing her food withint 15 minutes. She's been much more food motivated since (which has been a blessing in tracking).
