I have a 5 month old male GSD. When I first got him he was a ball of FIRE...a regular alligator. Never listened through thick and thin, I would say he was a very hard dog. Ever since he turned 4 months old, he is a lot more soft and scared acting. Like me note, he isn't scared of anything and nothing spooks him but he is a great deal less intense and rude to me and humans in general...I kinda miss my little a-- dog. He now will slick his ears back, seemingly submissive. He used to be a BITER and now he only mouths (teething now aswell). I heard puppies can go through a "fear stage" at this age and can sometimes last until maturity. Have you guys ever experienced this?
He should be teething right about now so don't play bite with him anymore until it is done, this is why he is mouthing and not bite hard, you don't want to associate pain with bite unless you just want a pet. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Yur dog is probably teething. Just like a human baby they dont feel well when they teeth. Show him some patience and dont play ball or anything else that requires him to bite something - Teething can last 4 to 8 weeks depending on the dog.
Tie him up and tease him with his favorite toy without ever giving him a bite. Use your voice and put lots of motion in the toy to really make him want the toy. This builds frustration and increases drive, making him a better dog after he finishes teething. Be sure to keep the sessions short, maybe a minute, so he doesn't lose interest.
