Howdy All:
Been a while since I last posted, although that’s NOT because Leerburg dog training methods/products haven’t worked (just saying)! Quite the contrary, I’m extremely pleased with the results gained using Ed’s systems.
Anyway, I’ve viewed Ed’s DVD on Remote Collars and am hoping an e-collar will help improve one of my dog’s returns. Merit (pictured at my sigline) is compliant when neck leashed, but off-lead at distance is another matter. Like most Mals he tends to bolt (take off running) occasionally, so I’m not 100% certain the problem is that he lacks respect for me. That is, considering his otherwise compliant nature on-lead. Collar-wise is probably more applicable, but I’m open to other thoughts too.
In any regard, I have two questions...
1) Since I train two (2) dogs, what benefit(s) would there be in purchasing an e-collar with a two dog setup (Dogtra 1902 for example)? Both dogs are worked to pull (skijoring, gear sled/pulk, wheelchairs, heavy moveable objects, etc.) albeit they’ve been trained individually, yet work as a team.
2) Other than going back to basics using a long-line to rework his returns. What other suggestions might you offer to make for more solid returns, on those occasions when the Mal gets loose?
Hi Mark;
A 2-dog collar is a great investment if you have two dogs. Both dogs need to be trained seperately, learning the collar completely (with you also becoming fluent) and then you can work both dogs together. The e collar can be used for everyday life and also in a professional capacity. The sky and your imagination is the only limiting factor in its use.
Happy Training.
