Good idea moving the food to that location! I will defintely try that. I'm kind of leaning towards it not being a UTI because he still uses the litterbox and when he does not its been on that same rug or the same area as I have had to replace the rug.
my cats will eat ANYTHING. not kidding. my meezer, merlin, LOVES plain white bread. whole slices.
your cats are weird, lol.
My meezer that passed away in October was the same way. A total pig! Still remember when she could barely walk and yet she jumped up on the counter and was eating greek salad!
My cats have been known to run off with whole slices of pizza and 6' subs. Seriously. My roomate was so confused the first time his sandwich disappeared. Who would think it was a cat?
I used to bring Herman everywhere w/me when he was little. He was nearly impossible to handle at a drive-thru that served french fries. He would try to climb into the window by running along my outstretched arm. I had to lock him up in a carrier in order to drive safely and keep him off the fries.
I would definitely have this cat checked at the vet including a full blood panel and T4.
My cat died last year of kidney failure (a very common disease for cats) - he ate kibble his whole life. Apparently cats do not handle kibble as well as dogs (of course, I only did research after my cat was sick, by then it was too late). Kibble can actually be dangerous for some cats (like mine) simply because cats never drink enough water to sufficiently hydrate themselves - they are designed to get their moisture from their food.
*IF* your cat is having any kind of urinary problem or (hopefully not) kidney problem it is best to catch it early! Cats usually do NOT show any signs of illness until they are very sick. Go to the vet, if only to rule out any problems. It will be worth the money for your peace of mind.
I would err on the side of caution and assume it is a physical problem before behavioural problem. Hopefully, it will be nothing and something as simple as changing litter brands or feeding him in a different spot will cure it.
